Omnivore's Dilemma

This book is a crucial part of the belief behind how I eat (or try to most of the time!) and the way I live. After watching Food Inc (A movie I totally reccommend everyone watching) I became very interested in Michael Pollan's view point and the amount of study he had put in to his ideas and beliefs.

A well established journalist his writing style is very wordy and can be a lot to take in but I love the amount of energy and information that he puts forth. The essence of the book is that the way we eat needs to go back to how it was when there were less options. The market has been flooded with every type of food imaginable and basically there's us and rats that eat that kind of variety. His book Food Rules breaks it down even more to say that there are 10 simple rules for how and what to eat. In fact The Omnivore's Dilemma's opening line is "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." Which sums it up beautifully.

This is by no means a sit down in one afternoon and browse read kind of book.. it's a LOT to take in and his use of words can make your brain a little tired! But the points he makes and the information he gives is at times mind blowing, things that I would have thought should be public information but had never heard of, and in the end the simplicity of his theory is so beautifully worded that I found myself wondering why I had never been able to express this to my clients so well!

Give it a go... or any of his books for that matter.. let me know what you think..
